“Do not say, ‘I will repay evil’; wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.”  (ESV)

When was the last time something unjust or even simply deeply inconvenient happened that prompted you to think, “I’ve got to do something about this”?  Did you follow through on that thought?  How did that go?

The fact is, we’re just okay at justice and we are pretty miserable when it comes to vengeance.  When we try and take things into our own hands, we pretty consistently make an absolute mess of them.  The reason is simple: We have sin in our hearts and sin destroys.  It does not build.  It does not redeem.  It does not improve.  It only brings death and a worsening of whatever the problem was in the first place.

God, on the other hand, is in the business of redemption.  That’s His game and He’s really good at it.  When we trust our hard situations into His faithful hands, He will always work in them to bring about what is right.  Waiting for His justice can be a frustrating thing, but if we will get into that habit, we will find ourselves with many fewer messes than we otherwise will.
