Digging in Deeper: Exodus 19:5

“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my reassured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine…”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

One of the things we are called to (and by “we,” I mean “everybody”) over and over again in the Scriptures is obedience.  We live in a day, though, when obedience is not a popular idea.  We want to be free to do as we please.  We want to loosen the restrictions on ourselves so we can pursue our hearts’ desires without any limitations.  Nobody likes the idea of obedience…except for when they do. Digging in Deeper: Psalm 127:3

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

During the course of his first campaign for President, Barack Obama was asked a question about his thoughts on sex education in schools.  His answer was unintentionally a great deal more revealing than he perhaps wanted of a worldview belief far more common today than it ought to be.  On this particular occasion he was asked whether he supported students being taught an abstinence-only curriculum or preferred one that included lessons on various methods of contraception, including abortion. Morning Musings: 1 Chronicles 4:27

“Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers did not have many children, nor did all their clan multiply like the men of Judah.”  (ESV)

Children are a blessing from God.  This is something the secular culture that is growing more and more prominent in the West (but also in many places in Asia including China and Japan) does not understand.  A few decades ago an environmental activist named Paul Ehrlich wrote a book called The Population Bomb in which he argued that the world was on a path toward rampant overpopulation which would lead to mass starvation as the environment could not produce enough food to feed everyone.  The only solution was for world leaders to take drastic steps to decrease the world’s population and prevent its rapid growth in the future.  Read the rest…
