Advent Reflections: Christmas Eve

Today is Christmas Eve. Tomorrow is the grand celebration of Jesus’ birth. O happy day! Here’s what I’ll be sharing with my own congregation this evening at our Christmas Eve service. Blessings to you as you prepare to celebrate with your family and friends. As a housekeeping note, this will be the last post until the new year other than this coming Sunday’s sermon on Monday. See you in a week!

Have you ever been a part of a show? No show happens on the spur of the moment. It takes planning. Lots of planning. Often months of planning. Depending on the size of the show, it may take years. But eventually there comes that moment when all the planning is done. Every line has been learned. All the costumes are set. The make-up is applied. The sets and scenery and props are all in place. The band is rehearsed and warm. It’s time for the show to start.

Grace Upon Grace

Merry Christmas to you! Blessings to you and your family as you celebrate this special day together. We’ve been talking all this season about Jesus’ coming and the difference it makes in our lives and in our world. There’s one last wonder to marvel over together today: God sent Jesus to save us when we were still in our sins. We weren’t worthy of it. We didn’t deserve it. We hadn’t earned it. But He did it anyway as an act of pure grace. Let’s bask in the glory of that grace as we reflect together this morning on just how good this greatest of all gifts is. As one last note, this will be the only post this week. We’ll get back on our journey through Exodus starting in the new year. I’ll see you then!

Grace Upon Grace

This is a fun day, isn’t it? I mean, it’s Christmas Eve. Who wouldn’t be happy on a day like this? So, on this happy and joyous occasion, I thought we would take a little mental field trip. Doesn’t that sound exciting? Where are we going on this great and special day? Close your eyes for a moment, climb in the mental church van with me (the fun thing about mental field trips is that we can all fit in the same van together without anyone having to worry about being squished in the back), and let’s take a little drive over to one of yours and my favorite places to visit: the DMV.

Anybody’s eyes pop back open in shock there?

Christmas Morning

Happy Boxing Day. Yesterday was the day. Here’s the message of joy and hope I shared with my congregation yesterday morning. May you delight and rejoice in the truth of our Savior. P.S. This will be the only post this week. Enjoy your week, and we’ll be together again like this in the new year.

Christmas Morning Message 2022

Christmas is a good time for telling stories. I’d like to tell you one this morning.

There was once a child. This child was loved by his parents. As far as they were concerned, he was at the center of their world. And this child had potential. So. Much. Potential. But he couldn’t see it. He didn’t understand the incredible things that lay ahead of him if only he stayed on the right path. But his parents did. And they knew their love was the key to his getting there. So they pursued him with their love.
