Morning Musing: Zechariah 5:5-6

“Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Look up and see what this is that is approaching.” So I asked, “What is it?” He responded, “It’s a measuring basket that is approaching.” And he continued, “This is their iniquity in all the land.””‬‬ (CSB – Read the chapter)

Sometimes you read passages in the Bible that just don’t make any sense. It could be that the imagery is just too weird to understand. It could be that the story takes such an unexpected direction your head is spinning too much to make heads or tails of it. It could be several different things. What do we do when we encounter one of these passages? Let’s ask that together here.

Morning Musing: Matthew 10:19-20

“When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.  For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

This is a really encouraging verse, but an often misunderstood one. Jesus is promising to have our back when we put ourselves on the line for His sake and find ourselves in the hot seat because of it. He is not telling us that we can be lazy when it comes to preparing for the possibility that we might find ourselves there. Read the rest…

Morning Musing: Proverbs 1:5

“Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.” (ESV)

I read a devotion a few weeks ago on the book of Proverbs from Tim Keller that I appreciated greatly.  He made this observation: You can have knowledge without wisdom.  Many people do.  But you cannot have wisdom without knowledge.  Wisdom comes only from the careful application of diligent learning.
