“This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do.”‬‬ (CSB – Read the chapter) 

Standing on the precipice of a new adventure is always a complicated emotional affair. On the one hand, there is the requisite nervousness. The unknown stretching out before us is always at least a little bit scary. What if we fail? What if we succeed? Both can be equally frightening. On the other hand, there is excitement. The possibilities before us are rich and we are excited to explore them. Having a little parting advice is always helpful in such situations. What kind of advice is the most helpful?

Morning Musing: James 1:25

“But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

As far as their historical worth goes, the Scriptures have a value that exceeds any other work of literature.  They have had more of an impact on human history in terms of shaping and forming the guiding assumptions of people than every other book combined.  The King James Version alone has had more of an impact on the English language than Shakespeare did.  Simply knowing and understanding the Scriptures without caring two wits about the God they reveal is important if you want to be a well-cultured individual.  But, if you want the real blessing they have to offer, you have to go beyond that to committing yourself to doing what they say. Digging in Deeper: Psalm 119:9, 11

One day when a group of Pharisees were following Jesus and the disciples around in hopes of catching them doing something wrong so they could discredit them, they noticed that the group was not performing the special washing rituals prior to eating that were prescribed in the Talmud.  They pounced.
