Digging in Deeper: James 5:15

“The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up; if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”‬‬ (CSB – Read the chapter)

Prayer is powerful stuff. You believe that, right? In spite of our nation’s growing secularity, a sizable majority of Americans still profess to pray regularly. You would think, then, that most of them believe there is some kind of effect or benefit to it. But just how much benefit does it bring? James here suggests there is potentially a lot of benefit.

Digging in Deeper: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (CSB – Read the chapter)

One of the number one questions people of faith (and even some who aren’t) wonder about when it comes to life at large is what God’s will for them is. What’s God’s will for my life? What does He want me to do? Where does He want me to go? Which decisions will bring Him the most honor? Morning Musings: Judges 6:36-37

“Then Gideon said to God, ‘If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said, behold, I am laying a fleece of wool on the threshing floor.  If there is dew on the fleece alone, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said.'”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

Gideon’s fleece has become synonymous with testing God.  And that’s exactly what Gideon was doing.  But, far from anything praiseworthy or worth imitating, this was an act of faithlessness by a man who was a coward. Read the rest…

Morning Musing: James 4:15

“Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.'”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

How do you make plans?  How attached to those plans are you?  What James offers here is a reminder that all of our plans must be made contingent on what the Lord has planned.  All of them.  We can strive for whatever we want, but nothing will happen that He does not allow for some reason.  The question then becomes: What does God have planned?
