Morning Musings: Psalm 1:6

“…for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

Morning Musings: Psalm 142:1

“With my voice I cry out to the Lord; with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord.”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

This is one of those psalms to pray when the wheels have fallen off the thing and nothing is going your way.  The context note tells us that it was a prayer of David’s when he was in the cave.  That alone gives us some hope that this is a good prayer for hopeless-seeming situations even without any of the other words. Have you ever struggled with feeling known?  One of the challenges of social media today is that a person can have hundreds, even thousands of followers, but no one who really knows them.  We need to be known.  This desire isn’t just a symptom of an unhealthy ego, it is a fundamental need as humans. Morning Musing: Psalm 135:15-18

“The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands.  They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths.  Those who make them become like them, so do all who trust in them.”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

In the ancient world, idols were obvious.  Someone who worshipped an idol would often literally bow down before a statue.  He would make sacrifices before a big hunk of carved rock or wood or shaped metal.  They were things made by human hands.  Today…not so much.  But, just because idolatry is more difficult to spot doesn’t meant the reality of it is any different.
