Morning Musings: 1 Chronicles 17:4

“Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: It is not you who will build me a house to dwell in.'”  (ESV – Read the chapter)

Sometimes the thing we most want to do for God He doesn’t have planned for us to do.   This is never an easy place to be.  We have a vision for something that we are convinced will be honoring of God and we are even committed to it for His sake, not the advancement of our own ego.  But every time we start to move toward making it a reality, something happens that sets us off course.  It’s almost like God’s the one derailing our efforts.

What could be going on here is that this isn’t something God has planned for us to do.  He has someone else in mind to do it.  In fact, He wants for us to be a part of the foundation for their accomplishing it, not us.

Responding to this is tough.  It can result in people turning from God with bruised egos.  If God has rejected them in this, they’ll just reject Him in life.  That’ll show Him!  (The irony, of course, is that it only hurts us.)  Better is to respond as David does here with gratitude that God wants to see it done and that we can be a part of it.  Then, we commit ourselves to the role He does have for us to play in His kingdom.  It may not be what we first desired, but we will discover as we pursue it with faithfulness that it is what God designed us for all along.  The result will be more joy for us and more glory for God.  That’s a pretty good place to be.

If you’re struggling with God seemingly saying no to something you want to do for Him, pray through the matter faithfully.  Is it sin standing in your way?  Are you pursuing it for your ego instead of His glory?  Is the enemy working to subvert your plans?  Or, is God saying, “That’s not for you.  But if you will join Me over here, I’ve got something even better suited for you in mind”?  If you can humble yourself to go with Him there, you will experience the joy of taking part in His kingdom.  Maybe not in the way you planned, but in the way God designed which, in the end, will be even better.

Thought those home elevations were of your new abode! Good looking blog: Great typography, good font size for easy reading; clean looking; amazed that the Nexus name was available to you; very easy to leave comments (no passwords, and the like); will look in on the links. Nice job overall, you make it look easy. Ron

Thanks! Word Press’s website makes it awfully easy. Their customer service folks were quick to answer the couple of questions I had to make it more user friendly. I was pretty surprised the Nexus was available too. I had to use the hyphen, but that was okay with me. I’m grateful for your review!

If I do a website I’d probably use WordPress. But for the time being I’ll hold off. It is important for you, I know, but not yet imperative for me. It could be useful for Linda’s memoir and to get ideas and input for another book. I am trying to hold off from having one more thing to maintain.
